Free WW (Weight Watchers) point calculators: If you're on WW, you know that the point system is central to the success of the diet. You probably also know that WW (Weight Watchers) ended their "Points Plus®" and SmartPoints system, and recently changed it to the WW PersonalPoints Program™.

That's why we created a list of the 99 most tracked foods and made two calculators so that you can estimate the points value of any food from the nutritional info on the label.

Just enter the nutritional values from food labels to instantly convert them to a Smart Points or Points Plus number.

Weight Watchers Points Calculator: SmartPoints | Points Plus | Smart Points Per Day? | Calories per SmartPoint?

WW (Weight Watchers) Smart Points Calculator:

Weight Watchers uses SmartPoints in their current point system for both FreeStyle and MyWW. So, how does WW calculate the SmartPoints value of a food?

A food's SmartPoint value is based on four criteria: calories, protein, sugar, and saturated fat. If you have a product label that lists these values, you can quickly convert them to Smart Points using our free SmartPoints calculator:

WW (Weight Watchers) Points Plus Calculator (Old Point System)

Surprisingly, a lot of people have stuck with the old Weight Watchers Point system called, Points Plus. If you are counting PointsPlus points, then the SmartPoints calculator above won't be of much use. Well, the good news is that we have a free online WW PointsPlus calculator!

To calculate the PointsPlus value of food, you'll need: carbs, protein, fat, and fiber values from the label:

How Many WW Points Per Day?

calculating ww points

The current WW point system (for FreeStyle) uses Smart Points.

There are several variables that determine your daily SmartPoints allotment including weight, height, age, and activity level.

Essentially, the younger, taller, and more active you are, the more WW points you get. Here's are two examples:

  • A short woman who is inactive might get a daily SmartPoints allotment of 24 SmartPoints
  • A tall, 28 year-old woman who exercises 3+ times a week might get 29 SmartPoints.

WW makes their SmartPoints formula a secret because it's just one part of their program. They discourage you from calculating and tracking points without joining WW, as doing so is not an effective way to lose weight long-term.

Calculating Weight Watchers Points: Here's What Info You Need

Finding the Weight Watchers points value for most foods is simple, especially if you have the Weight Watchers app. However, sometimes you might need to estimate the points in a specific food or product.

The good news is that it's easy with our free Weight Watchers points calculator, you just need the following nutritional info: (per serving)

Smart Points: (WW FreeStyle)

  • Calories (g)
  • Protein (g)
  • Sugar (g)
  • Saturated fat (g)

Sample calculation: Multi-Grain Cheerios: (1 cup) – Calories: 110, Protein: 2 g, Sugar: 6 g, Sat. Fat: 0 g = 4 Smart Points

Points Plus: (old system)

  • Carbs (g)
  • Protein (g)
  • Fat (g)
  • Fiber (g)

Sample Calculation: Multi-Grain Cheerios: (1 cup) – Carbs: 24 g, Protein: 2 g, Fat: 1.5 g, Fiber: 3 g = 3 Points Plus

It's easy to get this info for most products, as it's listed on the box, bag, or wrapper like this:

How Many Calories Per WW Point?

As you know, the Weight Watchers program is based on a points system instead of counting calories. This is an important distinction, as they believe that not all calories are equal.

In other words, 200 calories from a doughnut is very different than 200 calories from hummus and veggies. For this reason, it's hard to convert WW points from calories alone.

So, how many calories is a Smart Point? When estimating calories per Weight Watchers point, you can assume:

  • FreeStyle: 1 WW Smart Point is equal to about 30 calories
  • Points Plus: 1 WW Points Plus is equal to about 35 calories

Example: That means 23 SmartPoints equals approximately 690 calories. If you are limiting yourself to 1200 calories per day, that would equal 36-40 SmartPoints.

If you are eating healthy, then there is a greater number of calories per point, and fruit and veggies are worth zero points. If you are eating less healthy food, there are fewer calories per point.

Free WW Calculator: Here are the Formulas

"Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change!" – Freebird

Our free Weight Watchers points calculators use formulas based on weighing nutritional value from the smart folks at calorie lab to calculate an estimated points value for food.

  • WW Smart Points formula:
    ((calories) + (4 x sugar) + (9 x saturated fat) – (3.2 x Protein)) ÷ 33 = SmartPoints value
  • WW PointsPlus formula:
    ((3.2 x Protein) + (3.8 x (Carbs – Fiber)) + (9.0 x Fat) + (1.0 x Fiber)) ÷ 35 = PointsPlus value

The formulas differ in that SmartPoints rewards higher protein levels and specifically discourages eating saturated fat.

Members of the Weight Watchers FreeStyle program can easily access and track the points value for thousands of foods right from the WW app on their smartphone.

You can learn more about Weight Watchers and take advantage of our exclusive coupons if you consider joining.

*Disclaimer: Although we believe this WW calculator to be fairly accurate, it is meant only to calculate estimates of Weight Watcher points in food. For this reason, we make no guarantee of accuracy. Also, never attempt the Tide Pod Challenge, or take selfies in dangerous locations.

Gray Bathroom Rug Set

Gray Bathroom Rug Set

Statement Rugs

Interior designers often remind us not to overlook what's beneath our feet when we decorate a room. The flooring you choose has powerful impact, particularly if you are following the current trend of laying down bold, interesting statement rugs to give a space a spark of life.

You've heard of statement jewelry? Maybe you even wear a chunky bauble to dress up your T-shirts and cardigan sets. A statement rug performs the same accessorizing task in a room: It elevates the basic to something special. A statement rug should change the feel of a space and push it past a prescribed look. You can give a traditional room a mod vibe by adding a wooly shag to the floor, for example. With its pink walls and feminine flounces on the chairs, this dining room could feel girly and trite. But the exotic black-and-white pattern of the rug is an unexpectedly eclectic touch, it and gives the space a worldly edge.

Style Notes

living room

It doesn't have to be large or sparkly, but a statement rug should have presence -- an unusual color combination, a striking pattern, or an interesting texture. You already have other elements in the space, such as upholstery, window treatments, and artwork, so the rug has to claim its own portion of attention. In this living room, there is a lot of color and pattern happening at once. Yet the statement rug still stands out. Its vintage feel and bright colors pop off the large neutral rug underneath, and the long fringe is a silky counterpoint to the rough sisal.

How to Use Statement Rugs in Your Home

Perfectly Balanced

Layer a rug of unusual shape over a standard rug to add a component of visual interest. Try it under a seating group where you can overlap an amorphous shape, such as a faux-animal skin, over a typical rectangle. It makes a room feel comfortably aged over time.

When color and pattern is limited, such as in a utilitarian kitchen or formal dining room, unroll a powerfully bold pattern, such as wide awning stripes or a boisterous floral, to enliven the space. New cabinet hardware or bright dishware might follow.

How To Fix Peeling Paint on Your Bathroom Ceiling or Wall

How To Fix Peeling Paint on Your Bathroom Ceiling or Wall

How To Fix Bathroom Ceiling Paint Peeling

Bathroom ceiling paint peeling is a common issue with bathroom walls and ceilings. Clients often ask us why paint peels in their bathroom wall and how they can fix it. Not only does it make an otherwise beautiful bathroom look bad, but it serves as a breeding ground for mildew and bacteria. Which is exactly what you want to avoid!

What are the causes for bathroom ceiling paint peeling?

  • Peeling or bubbles happen when you start painting in high humidity.
  • It can also occur when paint is applied over built up water and soap scum. Usually around the things you use every day like the shower, sink and toilet.
  • Another simple mistake that causes bathroom ceiling paint peeling is just improper cleaning, prep and priming. It can often be that painful extra step for people to paint their ceilings. So, it's really no wonder that individuals often rush through that step in the painting process.
  • Also, another culprit is not allowing enough time in between coats for adequate drying. This severe cracking found on ceilings is actually called "alligatoring". It's really important to give your coats of paint, especially in the bathroom, adequate time to fully dry.

Enough about the issues though as we're here to discuss solutions! Here is an ideal guide on how to fix bathroom ceiling paint peeling!

The key is prevention

Before you even get started on fixing your bathroom ceiling paint peeling, you have to think about prevention. Bathrooms can be such a breeding ground for mold and mildew. It's not just the fact that they're usually smaller spaces. But it's the water and humidity that comes from daily showers and baths.

The key to preventing the ceiling paint from peeling in the first place is good ventilation. It's crucial to have a good fan in your bathroom and even better if it has a timer to keep it on for at least an hour after you bathe. Also, it's a great thing to have a window open in your bathroom as well. Especially after you've hit the shower, it just helps to keep the air circulating, which is exactly what you want to prevent that paint from peeling.

Materials needed for repairing bathroom ceiling paint peeling

There are a few things that you're going to need in order to make the process for repairing bathroom ceiling paint peeling go smoothly. Here is your list:

  • Paint scraper
  • Putty knife
  • Protective goggles and dust mask
  • Fine grain sandpaper
  • Vacuum sander (if available)
  • Sheetrock plaster
  • Paint brush & paint roller
  • Paint tray
  • Bathroom primer
  • Specialty bathroom interior paint

Step 1: Scrape Off the Peeling or Chipped Paint

  • Before you begin any of your work, be sure all areas are dry. This goes for the ceilings as well as the walls. Don't use the shower a day or two prior to repair.
  • Begin to remove peeling paint with a putty knife. This will make the surface uneven, but that's okay for now.
  • Make sure you wear protective eye gear and a dust mask. This prevents dust particles from getting into your eyes or your lungs, which can be very dangerous.
  • Use a fine-grain sandpaper to sand the area where you removed the paint blisters. Brush off any dust.
  • Be sure to remove flaking paint in all areas. The only paint left on the wall should be firmly stuck to the wall!

Step 2: Patch Where Bathroom Ceiling Paint Peeling Had Been

When the chipped paint or paint bubbles are removed, the surface will be uneven. Some areas will have a layer of paint where others won't.

  • Use a patching compound to even out the bathroom walls and the ceiling.
  • This will be a skim coat of sheet rock plaster. You can find it at any hardware store. Sheetrock CGC 20 should do the job.
  • Apply it in a thin layer, using a putty knife for this process. You want to let this coat completely dry for at least six hours time. Even better, if you have a few full days to work with, give it a whole day to dry.
  • When the first coat is fully dry, you can sand it smooth.

Step 3: Apply a second coat of sheetrock plaster, if needed & Sand again

  • You might be able to get away with just one coat of the sheetrock plaster.
  • If you do need two coats to properly repair your peeling paint, be sure to let the ceiling area dry for at least six hours between coats. After you have waited the appropriate amount of time, you can apply another thin layer of sheetrock plaster with a putty knife.
  • After your second application is sufficiently dry, sand it down again with fine sandpaper. Be sure to put on your protective goggles and mask again!
  • Sanding after this coat of sheetrock plaster will ensure there are absolutely no uneven edges and it's all smooth.
  • You can always use a vacuum sander for the ceiling instead of sandpaper. This is to avoid dust dropping directly on you. This helps to further protect your eyes and your lungs.

Step 4: Prime the Bathroom Wall prior to painting

  • Now that everything is all repaired, smooth and sanded, it's time to think priming and painting!
  • Usually, bathroom walls start peeling because they weren't properly primed in the first place . Primer is the first defense against water and moisture! Allow it to be your best friend, especially in bathroom areas.
  • If you want to go for a quality primer from Benjamin Moore, our expert recommendation is the latex based Fresh Start Primer. This primer works well in bathrooms because it's mildew resistant, quick drying and has great adhesion. All criteria you want ticked off for bathroom ceiling paint!
  • If you want to go with Sherwin Williams, we recommend their Multi-Purpose Latex Primer.
  • Prime the area you have prepared with a brush or small roller.
  • It's best to give the primer at least one full day to dry before you put on your finishing coat of paint.

Step 5: Paint your Bathroom!

  • When the primer is completely dry, it's time to paint.
  • Choose a paint that has gloss or semi gloss finish. These paints don't absorb moisture like other paints do. They also won't peel or flake over normal bathroom use. A higher-gloss eggshell might also work, but don't go any lower than that.
  • If you're looking for a flat finish, check out the Benjamin Moore Aura Bathroom Walls & Spa Matte . It's a little more expensive, but it will give your bathroom that sharp finish that flat paints usually provide.
  • If you are looking to go with Sherwin Williams Duration Home Interior Acrylic Latex is recommended in a satin finish.
  • With these paints, you can usually do a second coat, if needed, once the first coat has had time to dry.

I'm both deeply honoured and flattered you are considering using our services.

Since 1987 when I was at York University simply earning my way through school, I've had the privilege to meet and work with thousands of amazing homeowners like yourself.

Besides the birth of my daughter, there is nothing more satisfying than seeing a homeowner's life change when we have transformed their dream home into a masterpiece. For that reason, we take our jobs very seriously and are committed to our cause.

At Home Painters our mission is to paint homeowners' dreams, and make your painting experience last a lifetime!
I look forward to hopefully meeting you one day, as it brings me tremendous joy to make homeowner's dreams come true.
